Buffalo Sabres just buried the Canadiens
Alright, Buffalo, wake up and smell the coffee, or maybe the beef on weck, because your Buffalo Sabres just absolutely steamrolled the Montreal Canadiens last night, putting up a wild 8-3 win on the road. If you fell asleep after that first period, I don't blame you, it was a mess. Rasmus Dahlin got us on the board quick, but then Montreal scored *three straight*, including a shorthanded goal. I was pouring myself another cup, thinking, "Here we go again." But then Jordan Zucker got a power play goal, and that was the last time the Canadiens had anything to celebrate.
The second period was where the Buffalo Sabres decided to actually play hockey. Zach Benson got things started a minute in, then Jeff Skinner — wait, no, it was J. Quinn, I tell ya, sometimes these young guys are hard to keep straight — Jack Quinn got two power-play goals, and then newcomer Kasper Helenius chipped in one too. By the time Quinn scored his third goal in the third period and Tage Thompson and Zach Metsa sealed it, it was just a clinic. Eight goals, folks. Eight. Dahlin had a huge night with four assists, and Thompson had a goal and two helpers. When Buffalo plays like that, it's just beautiful hockey. Let's Go Buff-a-lo!
This win pushes the Buffalo Sabres to 50-23-9 with 109 points, still sitting pretty at first in the Atlantic. This team is finding its stride at the right time, and beating the Canadiens in their own barn like that? That feels good, real good. It's the kind of game that makes you think maybe, just maybe, this year is different. The mood down by Canalside this morning has gotta be buzzing after a performance like that. We've got a busy week ahead, but if they keep playing with this kind of offense, those playoff tickets are looking better and better.
Let's Go Buff-a-lo — from the City of Good Neighbors, this is Peg.
