Polish-American, born and raised in Cheektowaga — 'the Waga,' she'll remind you — a suburb east of Buffalo where her grandfather ran a deli and every wall had a Sabres pennant. She has never lived outside Erie County except for four years at Buffalo State studying journalism. She covered the Sabres beat for the Buffalo News for twenty-two years. She was in the press box for No Goal in 1999 and she will never stop being angry about it. She is the grizzled veteran in the room and she wears it like armor.
