Your Hawks are gonna miss the playoffs, so what now
Lookit, I know a couple two tree of youse probably turned it off early last night, and I can't blame ya. The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Buffalo Sabres at home, 5-1. We actually started out kinda hot, with Reese Greene getting a short-handed goal in the first period, assisted by Ilya Mikheyev. For a minute there, I was thinkin' maybe we had somethin'. But then the Sabres just kinda... took over. Tage Thompson ended up with two goals, and Alex Tuch got one too. By the time the third period rolled around, it felt like the boys were playin' on the North Avenue Beach in January. Just kinda stuck, you know?
The shots tell the story, 26-16 in their favor. It just felt like the Buffalo Sabres were comin' in waves. Our lone goal was short-handed, which is great and all, but it's tough to win a hockey game when that's your only offense. We were down 2-1 heading into the third, and then it just kinda unraveled. Tuch got that goal, then Thompson again, and then Rasmus McLeod finished it off. It wasn't pretty. Not pretty at all. I'm just sayin', it's hard to watch.
So, where does this leave us? We're 28-39-14, 70 points, dead last in the Central Division. Eighth. Wildcard nine. Lookit, the math ain't lookin' good, and our last ten games are 1-8-1. That's a brutal stretch. It means we're officially out of the playoffs. This city, this team, we deserve better. We're used to playoff hockey down here, whether you're from Bridgeport or up in Lincoln Park. It just stings, ya know? We gotta start lookin' at next season, which, for a dynasty loyalist like me, is a tough pill to swallow.
