Your Columbus Blue Jackets just can't catch a break, can they?
Here's your morning update. Last night, the Columbus Blue Jackets hosted the Boston Bruins at our Nationwide Arena – not the insurance company, the arena, although, look, same thing – and it was a tough 3-2 loss. Max Marchment started us off strong in the first period, just under four minutes in, from Damon Fabbro and Boone Jenner, which really got the crowd going. But then their guy, S. Kuraly, tied it up. The second period was a bit rough, with H. Jokiharju putting the Bruins up by one right before the buzzer. Adam Fantilli, who's just electric, got us back in it early in the third with an unassisted goal, and for a second, I thought, "LEOOOO!" But M. Kastelic dashed those hopes just nine minutes later, and that was it for the Columbus Blue Jackets. We were outshot 35-22, which tells part of the story.
This loss stings, especially since we're sitting at 40-29-12, good for 92 points, which puts us 5th in the Metropolitan Division and still holding onto that Wildcard #4 spot. But with a 2-7-1 record in our last ten, this is a moment for some serious reflection down on West Nationwide Boulevard. We need to find that spark, that cannon boom energy, and fast. The mood around Columbus this morning, from Buckeye Donuts on High Street to the Short North, is definitely a mix of frustration and that familiar, hopeful dread. We know what this team *can* do, and we just need them to *do* it.
Cannon goes boom — Blue Jackets hockey from Columbus, Ohio.
