Your Wild got it done in Detroit, but uff da, that was close
Well, good morning, Minnesota. If you fell asleep before the final buzzer last night, you probably woke up to a little heart flutter when you checked the score. The Minnesota Wild pulled off a 5-4 win against the Detroit Red Wings, but it sure wasn't pretty in the third period. Kirill Kaprizov, bless his heart, notched a hat trick, including the power-play game-winner with less than two minutes left in regulation. After a slow start where Detroit's Alexander Johansson got one past us early in the first, our boys really turned it on in the second period, with Matt Boldy and then Kaprizov and Vinny Tarasenko all scoring, and Kaprizov getting another to make it 4-1 heading into the third.
* Kaprizov's third goal (PP) at 18:09 of P3 was the game-winner, assisted by Matt Boldy and Mats Zuccarello. * The Wild scored four goals in the second period. * Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon were solid on the back end, even with the late Detroit push. Brock Faber continues to look like a seasoned veteran, even grabbing an assist on Kaprizov's second goal.
Now, what does this all mean for us here in Minneapolis? You betcha, it means we hit that 100-point mark and solidified our third-place spot in the Central Division. This win keeps our little playoff push on track, which is huge for the confidence of our younger guys, and for what it means for youth hockey in this state, seeing their heroes dig deep. We’ve got a tough stretch coming up, so getting two points on the road in a building like Little Caesars Arena, even with the late drama, is exactly what we needed. Everyone down at Mickey's Diner this morning is probably talking about Kaprizov, you betcha.
You betcha — Let's Play Hockey. This is Ingie Olsen-Carlson.
