You won't believe how the Canadiens lost last night.
Tabarnac. I barely slept. Another one slipped away from our Montreal Canadiens, this time in overtime, a 1-0 heartbreaker against the Tampa Bay Lightning right here at home. If you fell asleep, you missed a brutal, back-and-forth battle that felt like a playoff game. Both goalies were absolutely brilliant, standing on their heads all night. It was tight, physical, and honestly, a bit frustrating to watch us control so much of the play and just not find the back of the net. When Gabriel Goncalves scored nine minutes into the extra frame for Tampa, the air just went out of the Bell Centre, like a flat tire on a bike on Rue Sherbrooke.
The key players? Our goalie, of course. He was sensational, making 32 saves, giving us every chance to win. David Savard and Kaiden Guhle were rock solid on the blue line, shutting down lanes and blocking shots like their lives depended on it. But we just couldn't solve their netminder, despite peppering him with 33 shots. We had some glorious chances, especially Nick Suzuki on a breakaway early in the third, and Cole Caufield ringing one off the post. These are the moments you gotta bury, gang. C'est ça, le hockey.
What does it mean for the Montreal Canadiens moving forward? Well, we’re still sitting third in the Atlantic with 106 points, which is good, but dropping that extra point in OT stings. Especially when the Boston Bruins are nipping at our heels. Every single point matters now, and we can’t afford to give away any more to these Eastern Conference teams. We’re 7-3-0 in our last ten, which is strong, but this one breaks our streak. The mood across Montreal this morning? Pissed off, for sure. But also, a little bit proud of the fight. We'll be back at La Banquise tonight, win or lose.
