Montreal Canadiens Game Recap: BUF 8, MTL 3

Your Montreal Canadiens needed a wake-up call against Buffalo

*Tabarnac*. I don't even know where to begin, my friends. Last night at the Bell Centre, it was a horror show. The Buffalo Sabres absolutely embarrassed our Montreal Canadiens, winning 8-3 in regulation. What started with a flicker of hope – Arber Xhekaj, then a power play goal from Ivan Demidov, and even a short-handed beauty from Jake Evans in the first period – quickly turned into a complete collapse. We were up 3-2 after the first, but the floodgates opened after that. They outshot us, *tabarnac*, 36-22, and the defense just vanished.

The second period was a disaster, with the Sabres scoring three unanswered goals. Zach Benson, Jack Quinn on the power play, and then Konsta Helenius just walked in. Quinn added another power play goal in the third, and Tage Thompson and Zach Metsa (also on the power play) piled on the misery. Our Montreal Canadiens just couldn't find an answer, and their power play went cold after that first period. It felt like every Buffalo player was getting a piece of the action, especially Dahlin with all those assists. It was hard to watch, even for a die-hard like me, up there in the Bell Centre's rafters where hockey comes to be serious again.

This loss, it stings. We're still sitting third in the Atlantic with 106 points, a strong record overall at 48-24-10, but losing like this at home, after winning seven of our last ten, it just shakes your confidence. We can't afford these kinds of defensive breakdowns, especially with the playoffs coming up. The mood in Montreal this morning? It's like finding out your favorite poutine place, La Banquise, is closed. Disappointed, a little angry, and craving something to make it all better. We need to regroup, and fast.

Allez Les Canadiens — Go Habs Go. This is Amélie Boisvert.

My buddy Pascal and the gang are tearing this apart right now, you gotta hear them live at mornings.live.
