Your New Jersey Devils pulled it out last night you won’t believe it
Alright, so if you went to bed early and missed it, the New Jersey Devils played the Chicago Blackhawks last night right here in Newark and it was a rollercoaster. We ended up taking it 5-3, but man, it wasn't easy. The Blackhawks jumped out early with a goal from Ilya Mikheyev in the first, but then Curtis Brown – on the power play, mind you – tied it up. Then Frank Nazar got another one for Chicago. We were down going into the second, and I'm telling you, I was pacing around my living room like I was trying to find a decent parking spot on Ferry Street during the Portuguese festival. Simon Nemec finally got us even in the second period, but then Nazar punched another one in, short-handed no less, in the third. I swear, my blood pressure was through the roof.
But then, the comeback, the one we needed. Dougie Hamilton, he bangs one home at 14:32 of the third. And then, not even twenty seconds later, Jack Hughes – the kid is unbelievable – he scores another one. My neighbors probably heard me screaming. And then just to put a bow on it, Jack Hughes gets the empty netter with 31 seconds left. Three goals in the last 5:28 of the game to seal the deal. We outshot them too, 40-31. It wasn’t perfect, but a win’s a win and frankly, we needed it.
So what does this mean? We're still sitting at 7th in the Metro with 78 points, but that win keeps the momentum going. We’re on a streak now, 6-4-0 in our last ten. Every single point matters right now if we wanna even think about sniffing the playoffs. We got the Islanders next, and you know how those games always go. We gotta keep this intensity up, especially from the third period, if we want to make any noise. The mood in Newark this morning? Definitely better than it could've been, that’s for sure.
