Someone's building a $1.9M house in Ward 1. Guess where.

Is Ottawa building a new mansion or just a very big house?

So, you're enjoying your morning coffee, maybe thinking about grabbing a shawarma later, and your city hall is out here issuing building permits for nearly two million dollars. C'est vrai! According to the latest batch of issued building permits, someone in Ward 1, specifically 56 Inglewood Drive, just got the green light for a $1,910,124, one-storey detached dwelling. Un million, neuf cent dix mille! That's not just a house, that's practically a compound.

This kind of residential investment, especially for a single-storey, really makes you wonder about the architectural ambition behind it. Inglewood Drive is already known for its… substantial homes, but this permit for a new build suggests something quite grand is on the horizon.

Meanwhile, over in Ward 5, there's some serious commercial movement with Co-operators Insurance at 55 Standish Court getting a permit for over $1.9 million in interior alterations and structural beam installation. Always good to see our industrial and commercial zones getting some love, too.

What does this tell us? Well, the housing market, even for luxury builds, is clearly still moving in Ottawa. Keep an eye on Inglewood Drive; you might see some serious construction activity soon.

The real story is never on the Hill — it's always just off it.
