Your city just approved $13,000 for tents. For what, Ottawa?

Your city hall is busy with tents and a new dealership

Bonjour, Ottawa. Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, giving you the real story from just off the Hill, where the permits are flowing, and the city keeps changing, even if it feels structured. My goodness, this data always makes you go, 'Wait, what now?'

So, let's talk about the Bani Hashi Society. According to the recently issued building permits, they've got two permits for temporary tents at 900 Eglinton Ave E, in Ward 3. This isn't just one event; they’ve got one set of five tents planned from June 16 to June 27, 2026, and then another five tents from July 26 to August 6, 2026. Each permit for these commercial tents is valued at $6,500. That’s a significant investment in temporary structures, twice over, for what looks like seasonal or recurring events.

The city is also seeing some movement on the commercial front. An active development application, SP 25 66, shows a new automobile dealership is in process for 2318 Dundas Street West, in Ward 2. It’s still ‘Application in Process,’ so we’ll have to watch if this moves forward. It’s always interesting to see where new businesses decide to put down roots, and what kind of impact they’ll have on the local economy and traffic flow in that part of the city.

The real story is never on the Hill — it's always just off it.
