Guess who's putting up 10 tents on Eglinton?

Your city is getting more tents and some new buildings

Bonjour. I’m Simone Okafor-Bouchard, and I have your Morning Wire update from City Hall.

The first thing that caught my eye, looking at the newly issued building permits, is that The Bani Hashi Society has permits for *two* separate installations of five temporary tents each at 900 Eglinton Avenue East. We're talking June 16 to June 27, 2026, and then again from July 26 to August 6, 2026. Each permit for these temporary commercial structures in Ward 3 is for $6,500.

* Permit #BP 3TEN 26-406: five temporary tents, June 2026 * Permit #BP 3TEN 26-407: five temporary tents, July/August 2026 * Location: 900 Eglinton Ave E, Ward 3 * Cost per permit: $6,500

It's interesting to see the same organization securing permits for the same type of temporary structure, for two different periods, at the same location, almost a year out. This isn't just a one-off event; it indicates a planned, recurring activity. It’s always good to see community organizations planning ahead, securing their spaces well in advance.

Meanwhile, on the development application front, there’s an "Application in Process" for a residential apartment building at 1970 and 1980 Fowler Drive in Ward 8. We’ve been talking a lot about the housing crunch, and every new residential development, even an application in process like App #OZ/OPA 25 23, is a step towards addressing that. It's something to keep an eye on as it moves through the municipal process.

The real story is never on the Hill — it’s always just off it.
