Your city hall already approved tents for 2026. Seriously.

What your city hall just permitted for next year.

Alright, *bonjour* Ottawa. Let's talk about what's been brewing at City Hall, because the real story is never on the Hill – it's always just off it. We've got some interesting permits being issued, and frankly, some of them are already looking to 2026. *Mon Dieu*.

The most interesting little nugget from the latest batch of issued building permits? The Bani Hashi Society, over in Ward 3, has already secured *two* permits to install five temporary tents each, for two separate eleven-day events in 2026. We’re talking June 16 to June 27, and then again from July 26 to August 6, both at 900 Eglinton Avenue East. That's $6,500 for each permit, according to the City's records.

* Deux Fois, Deux Événements The fact that a community organization is planning so far ahead, and getting these approvals locked down now, really shows how you need to navigate the city's processes. It also highlights the planning that goes into our summer events, even the temporary ones.

Other permits include a $50,180 alteration for fire safety at Spectra Confectionery in Ward 5, and a new ground sign for St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School in Ward 9 for $15,000. It’s all part of the daily bureaucratic ballet that keeps the city running.

What does this mean for you? Well, it means that even if you’re planning a backyard canopy, like the $30,810 one approved for 3413 Water Lily Court in Ward 10, City Hall is keeping tabs. It also means the summer of 2026 is already being mapped out, tent by tent. Keep an eye on Ward 3; those temporary events often bring a lot of life to a neighbourhood.

You know, Keith and the gang on the morning show probably have a few thoughts on future tent planning. Check them out at mornings.live.
