Your city is getting some new temporary structures

We’re seeing some interesting permits this week, particularly two identical ones for The Bani Hashi Society. They’ve secured permits for five temporary tents each at 900 Eglinton Avenue East, for two separate events. The first runs June 16 to June 27, 2026, and the second from July 26 to August 6, 2026. Each permit, under the "COMMERCIAL" type for Ward 3, is valued at $6,500. This is pretty standard for event planning, but it’s always good to see community organizations getting the green light for their gatherings.
Here's a quick look at other notable permits issued:
* **Fire Safety Upgrade:** Spectra Confectionery in Ward 5 is investing $50,180 for sprinkler, fire alarm, and emergency lighting alterations at 6650 Pacific Circle. Good to see industrial safety being prioritized. * **New School Sign:** St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School in Ward 9 is getting a new ground sign at 6675 Montevideo Road, costing $15,000. * **Residential Canopy:** A $30,810 permit for a canopy in a rear yard at 3413 Water Lily Court in Ward 10 suggests someone is ready to enjoy their outdoor space, rain or shine.
On the development front, Ward 8 is looking at a new residential apartment building at 1970 and 1980 Fowler Drive. This application, OZ/OPA 25 23, is still in process. With Ottawa’s housing crunch, especially for apartments, developments like this are always closely watched.
