That one stung a little this morning, didn't it, Vegas? You wake up, check your phone, and that 3-2 regulation loss to the Utah Mammoth just hits different when you’re used to seeing wins pop up. The Golden Knights fought hard at home last night, but couldn't quite close it out, letting the Mammoth take home a win they probably feel like they earned.
The first period looked promising when Mark Stone got us on the board with a power play goal, assisted by Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner – classic Stone, right? But then Utah’s Mackenzie Weegar tied it up, and the second period saw Dylan Guenther give the Mammoth the lead. Ivan Barbashev, though, quickly answered back for the Golden Knights, again with an assist from Jack Eichel, showing that resilience we know and love. It felt like we were building momentum, the energy in the T-Mobile Arena was electric, but then Logan Cooley found the net for Utah in the third, and that was the house edge they needed to hold on. We outshot them 29-21, but sometimes that just doesn't matter when the puck doesn't bounce your way.
So, what does this mean for the Golden Knights? We're still sitting pretty at 1st in the Pacific with 95 points and our last ten games are still looking strong at 7-0-3. One loss isn't going to sink us, especially not when we're playing this well overall. This is just a reminder that every team in this league is coming to play, and you can’t take anything for granted, even on home ice. The boys just need to shake this off and get ready for the next one. The mood on the Strip might be a little quieter than usual this morning, but we’ve seen this team bounce back from tougher spots. We always do.
