Your Golden Knights played their hearts out but Carolina stole the comp
Alright, Vegas, wake up. If you went to bed after the second period, you missed a wild ride, and unfortunately, the Vegas Golden Knights fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime last night. This was a road game, and the Hurricanes took advantage of being on home ice. Brayden Howden put us on the board in the first and then again in the second, looking like he was absolutely on fire. We were up 2-0 heading into the third, feeling good. But Carolina came back hard, tying it up with two quick goals in the third from Lukas Stankoven and Martin Necas, and then taking the lead on a power play goal from Jordan Staal. For a minute there, it felt like the whole house was against us.
But you know our Knights — they don't fold easy. Captain Mark Stone, with the assist from Mitch Marner and Tomas Hertl, pulled us back into it, tying the game 3-3 with just under two minutes left in regulation. That's the kind of grit we love to see, the kind that built this team from nothing in 2017. The shot count was even, 26-26, which tells you how tight this game really was. We took it to overtime, but a late penalty gave the Hurricanes another power play, and Sebastian Jarvis sealed the deal for Carolina just under four minutes into OT. It stings, especially after fighting so hard to get that point.
So, where does this leave us? We're still sitting pretty at 1st in the Pacific Division with 95 points, and our last ten games show a dominant 7-0-3 record. That's a great run, even with this loss. The mood around Las Vegas this morning might be a little quiet, but it's not despair. We've seen this team battle. Losing in overtime for a point on the road against a strong Eastern Conference team isn't the end of the world. It’s a good reminder that every single shift matters as we head into the final stretch.
* Brayden Howden with both goals in regulation for the Vegas Golden Knights. * Mark Stone ties it up late in the third to send it to overtime. * Carolina's Sebastian Jarvis scores the game-winner on an overtime power play.
This is a tough one to swallow, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We learn from it and move on. The boys will be back.
