Can you believe we're the most forgetful?
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine. Well, here's the thing, I saw something in the daily digest that truly made me pause my contemplation of the fog rolling in over the Olympic Mountains this morning. Victoria, our serene little haven, has apparently been named the fourth most forgetful city in Canada by Uber. Not just that, but we're the *most* forgetful in all of British Columbia. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? What exactly are we leaving behind in those Ubers? Is it the serenity, perhaps, or just our house keys after a particularly good high tea in Oak Bay?
### What Are We Forgetting?
This isn't just about car keys, is it? Uber actually releases a list of the most common items, and it paints a rather vivid picture of our collective absent-mindedness. Are we so lost in the quiet charm of James Bay or the vibrant bustle of the Inner Harbour that our possessions just... slip our minds?
* Phones and cameras, probably after trying to capture the perfect float plane landing. * Wallets and purses, perhaps left behind after a quick stop at one of Fort Street's antique shops. * Headphones, undoubtedly after listening to the waves at Dallas Road. * And, I imagine, a surprising number of reusable grocery bags filled with Saanich Peninsula produce.
It's not exactly a badge of honour, but it does lend a certain whimsical air to our reputation. Perhaps it speaks to our "island time" attitude, where urgency is, shall we say, a suggestion rather than a command. We're not in a rush, even to remember our belongings. It's almost post-haste, isn't it? For those of us living here, maybe it’s a gentle reminder to double-check before stepping out of the car, especially if you’ve just enjoyed a particularly strong espresso from a café near Beacon Hill Park.
