Your city hall just licensed a new amusement center on Johnson Street.

Your City Hall is embracing new ways to play

Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine.

Well, here's the thing about what your city hall has been up to. It appears Victoria is getting a new entertainment hub, according to a recently issued business license. Arcadia, an amusement centre, received license #48095 for its location at 707 Johnson Street. What does that mean for us? It suggests a continued shift towards diversifying our downtown offerings beyond just shops and restaurants. Is this a sign of the times, perhaps a reflection of people wanting more interactive experiences? I think so.

Alongside that, it seems the city is quite literally wiring up for more density. Building Permit #EP083395 for $8,200 indicates the removal of existing basement wiring to install a new basement suite, including a bathroom, storage rooms, two bedrooms, and a new kitchen area. This kind of permit, for residential conversions, is something we see quite a bit. It speaks to the ongoing quiet transformation of our housing landscape, one basement at a time. It’s all part of the dance, isn’t it?

The addition of Arcadia downtown, and these small-scale housing improvements, point to a Victoria that’s slowly but surely evolving. Keep an eye on Johnson Street to see what kind of "amusement" Arcadia brings.
