What your city hall just approved for your summer
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine.
Well, here's the thing about what's happening downtown: summer is coming, and it appears our city council is ready for it. What's more summery than ice cream? Hazel's Ice Cream Ltd. just secured two new mobile business licences (numbers 40784 and 40447, for those keeping track), specifically for bicycle vending. So, yes, prepare yourselves for more delicious, pedal-powered treats around town. It makes you wonder, doesn't it, if the deer in Beacon Hill Park will ever learn to line up for a scoop.
Beyond the sweet stuff, it seems we're also getting a new arcade. Arcadia, at 707 Johnson Street, received business licence #48095 for an amusement centre. A little classic entertainment in the heart of the city – perhaps a place for those who need a break from contemplating the endless blue of the Salish Sea.
* Hazel's Ice Cream Ltd. has two new mobile bicycle vendor licences. * Arcadia, an amusement centre, is approved for 707 Johnson Street. * A new veterinary clinic is opening on Caledonia Avenue.
And for our furry friends, the Downtown Veterinary Clinic (licence #22734) is setting up shop at 736 Caledonia Avenue. This is, of course, a welcome addition for the many companion animals who call James Bay home. These are the small, tangible things that shape our daily lives here. Keep an eye out for those ice cream bikes as the weather warms; they might just be the unofficial heralds of island summer.
