Your city hall just licensed a new arcade.
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine.
Well, here's the thing about what your city hall has been up to. While many of us were enjoying the quiet hum of the float planes landing in the Inner Harbour, some interesting new ventures got their official nod. The most intriguing? Arcadia, an amusement centre, received Business Licence #48095 for its location at 707 Johnson Street. An arcade, you say? In this digital age? It does make you wonder, doesn't it? Perhaps it’s a nod to a simpler time, a place where pixels are tangible.
Then we have Hazel's Ice Cream Ltd. popping up twice with mobile bicycle vendor licences. #40784 and #40447. Two licences for what appears to be the same ice cream vendor. Are we seeing an expansion? Or perhaps just a bureaucratic quirk. Either way, more ice cream on two wheels sounds like a very Victoria kind of progress, perfectly suited for the Galloping Goose Trail.
And on the building permit front, an electrical permit, #EP083395, was issued for $8,200 to remove existing basement wiring and install a new basement suite, complete with a bathroom, storage rooms, two bedrooms, a new kitchen area, and baseboard heating. This kind of permit, allowing for more dwelling units, quietly chips away at the housing puzzle, one basement suite at a time. It’s a small, consistent movement that often goes unnoticed.
What does this all mean for us? Well, keep an eye on Johnson Street for the arcade. It might just be the new hub for a bit of old-fashioned fun.
