Well, here's the thing. While you were perhaps enjoying the quiet hum of the float planes or contemplating the sheer bravery of a deer crossing Oak Bay Avenue, City Hall was busy. What were they up to? Granting a few new business licences that might just add a certain flavour to downtown.

* Arcadia, an "Entertainment - Amusement Centre" at 707 Johnson Street, just received Licence #48095. Yes, an arcade. For those of us who remember the clatter and glow of the old coin-op machines, this is certainly a nod to a different kind of downtown entertainment. * And if that doesn't cool you down, HAZELS ICE CREAM LTD has secured two new mobile bicycle vendor licences (Licence #40784 and #40447). More ice cream on wheels? I'm sure Beacon Hill Park will appreciate that.
These new licences, according to recent City Hall records, suggest a small but definite shift in the downtown core's offerings. It seems Victoria is embracing both a bit of nostalgic fun and continued mobile refreshment. One wonders if these new establishments will bring new sounds to the Inner Harbour, perhaps the cheerful jingle of an ice cream cart melding with the arcade's digital symphony.
