Two fires hit William Whyte and Elmwood before your coffee.

Two fires this morning you need to know about

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We're starting this morning with a couple of significant fire incidents that kept our Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service busy overnight, hey. WFPS dispatch records show a structure fire was reported in Tyne-Tees in the Elmwood - East Kildonan ward at 6:11 AM this morning, March 23, 2026. Units D3, E2, E8, L2, and R8 were on scene and had it resolved by 6:23 AM.

Before that, another structure fire broke out in the William Whyte neighbourhood, over in the Mynarski ward. That call came in at 4:04 AM, also on March 23, with units D24, E101, E6, L1, and R6 responding. They had that fire resolved by 4:14 AM. Always good to see our crews working so fast, eh.

On a completely different note, it looks like our ongoing battle with potholes is still a top concern for folks. The number one complaint to 311 today, with four calls in the last 24 hours, is "Pothole P1_vof." We've seen 342 of those specific reports come in recently, according to the latest 311 data. With the thaws and freezes we get, it’s no surprise, but it's a constant challenge for Public Works. We'll be watching how quickly the city can address these, especially as spring tries to make an appearance.
