Your Morning Rundown: Fire in William Whyte and Demolition Permits Keep Piling Up

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We've got some urgent news out of the North End this morning, hey. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a structure fire in William Whyte. The incident, recorded as 2026047771, was reported at 6:00 AM on April 1, 2026, and resolved by 6:42 AM, according to real-time civic intelligence monitors. WFPS units D24, E6, L1, R5, and R6 were on site in the Mynarski ward. Always tough to hear about a fire, especially when it's so early in the day.

### North End Demolitions Continue

On the development front, it looks like a busy week for demolitions, especially around the North End and Point Douglas. Our civic intelligence monitor data shows eight demolition permits issued just this past week, from March 27 to March 31, 2026. A couple notable ones:

* 881 Main Street in North Point Douglas (Mynarski ward) on March 31, applicant Wintec Building Services Inc. * 563 Redwood Avenue in St. John's (Mynarski ward) on March 31. * 145/147 Euclid Avenue in North Point Douglas (Mynarski ward) on March 27, applicant Imrie Demolition Ltd.

That's three properties in Mynarski ward alone slated for demolition, hey. It always makes you wonder what's next for those spots, especially in neighbourhoods with such deep roots and history. We'll be keeping an eye on these sites to see what comes next for our city's landscape.
