Two fires hit William Whyte and West Broadway overnight.

Two Fires in William Whyte and West Broadway

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We're starting this morning's wire with some serious news from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. Overnight, crews responded to two structure fires in residential neighbourhoods. The first, incident 2026048300, happened in West Broadway at 3:18 AM on April 2, 2026. WFPS units D4, E103, E104, L1, and R4 were on scene and had it resolved by 3:32 AM, hey. Just a couple hours later, incident 2026048336 was reported in William Whyte at 5:39 AM, with units D24, E6, L1, R5, and R6 responding. That fire was resolved by 5:59 AM.

### Demolitions Across the City

On the development front, the City of Winnipeg issued seven demolition permits between March 30 and March 31. These include:

* 563 Redwood Avenue in St. John's (Mynarski Ward) * 881 Main Street in North Point Douglas (Mynarski Ward) * 546 Renfrew Street in J.B. Mitchell (River Heights - Fort Garry Ward) * 396 Union Avenue West in Chalmers (Elmwood - East Kildonan Ward) * 546 Home Street in St. Matthews (Daniel McIntyre Ward) * 873 Alfred Avenue in Burrows Central (Point Douglas Ward) * 967 Manitoba Avenue in Burrows Central (Point Douglas Ward)

It's a mix of different wards, but you can see a concentration in the North End, like Burrows Central and St. John's. We'll be watching to see what kind of new builds take their place.

These immediate responses from our fire crews show just how vital their work is, especially as we head into spring. Stay safe out there, nisto.
