Winnipeg had four fires and ten demolitions overnight. What's next?

Your May 4th fire update and more, hey

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We've had a busy night for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, hey, with four structure fires reported across the city. The most recent one was in China Town, Ward Point Douglas, with WFPS incident 2026067179. Crews were on scene at 5:30 AM and had it resolved by 6:41 AM, according to real-time monitor data. Before that, fires were reported in Polo Park, Jefferson, and Dufferin, all between 3:20 AM and 3:36 AM. It sounds like the WFPS had their hands full across multiple wards.

### Development and Demolitions

While the fire crews were busy, the city also saw a lot of development activity. A new gas kiosk permit was issued on April 29th for CTM Design Services at 500 Oak Point Highway in Ward Point Douglas. On the other side of things, ten demolition permits were issued between April 29th and 30th across several wards. These include properties like 65 Berrydale Avenue in St. Vital, 606 Oak Street in Central River Heights, and 491 Burrows Avenue in William Whyte, hey. This push and pull between building new and tearing down old is just part of the city's constant change, you know?

In terms of housing, 15 new housing units were permitted this week across 35 projects. That's a good sign for folks looking for more places to call home in our city. Keep an eye on these demolition sites to see what comes next for those neighbourhoods.
