Your tax bill just landed. What did Winnipeg do with it?

Your tax bill is in the mail, hey.

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We’ve got a couple of big items to talk about today on the City Hall beat, with your property tax bills landing in mailboxes and some interesting movement on new businesses.

### Your Property Tax Bills are Here

First up, the City of Winnipeg announced yesterday, May 7th, 2026, that 2026 property tax bills are officially in the mail. This is a yearly tradition, and it's always a good reminder of what's happening with our municipal coffers, hey. For those keeping an eye on the bigger picture, a new report also released on May 6th, 2026, says Winnipeg is actually beating its housing targets, especially with new downtown, infill, and transit-oriented developments. So, while you’re looking at that bill, know that the city is pushing for growth, according to the official media releases from the City of Winnipeg.

### New Businesses and a Bridge for Omand's Creek

On the business front, there's some good news. The City's real-time monitor shows seven new liquor license applications posted this week alone. Places like Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art and the John Blumberg Sports Complex are on that list, which is a nice mix of culture and recreation, you know? This comes alongside five new general business licenses issued in the past two weeks. It's always great to see new life in the city, especially with four businesses closing in William Whyte in the past month, which brings that area's total closures to 27. We need that vibrancy, hey.

Also, the city just unveiled the draft design for the Omand’s Creek Pedestrian Bridge yesterday, May 7th, 2026. Keep an eye on that — it’s another step in connecting our neighbourhoods.
