Your Hazmat team just rolled into West Broadway this morning

A Hazmat Call in West Broadway This Morning

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We've got some breaking news from West Broadway this morning, hey. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) Hazmat team responded to an incident at 6:47 AM today, May 18, 2026, according to the real-time Civic Intelligence Monitor. Fire Rescue Unit E4 was dispatched to the scene in the West Broadway neighbourhood, which is part of the Fort Rouge - East Fort Garry ward. Details on the nature of the hazmat situation are still coming in, but it’s always a serious call when the specialized units roll out. They don't send those folks out for just anything, you know?

On a different note, we’re also seeing a noticeable uptick in liquor license applications across the city. The Civic Intelligence Monitor shows eight new applications posted this week alone. This includes places like Niverville Centennial Arena, Berto's Taqueria, Super 7 Service – Esso, The SJ Collective, and the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art. It's good to see some new businesses looking to open up and serve our communities, even as we see five closures in William Whyte in the last month. Keep an eye on those new spots, hey, especially Plug In – good to see more art spaces getting licensed.

This Hazmat situation in West Broadway is definitely one to watch. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available from the WFPS.
