Your Morning Update: Hazmat in the Exchange Today
Hey, good morning, Winterpeg! We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
We're starting this morning with some active situations across the city. WFPS dispatch records show a hazmat response is ongoing in the Exchange District as of 10:15 AM today, June 1, 2026. Fire Rescue unit E4 is currently on scene for incident 2026084121. This is in the Point Douglas ward, right in the heart of our beautiful Exchange, hey. Keep an eye on local alerts if you're working or living in that area.
We've also seen unusually high emergency call volumes across the city this morning. The Civic Intelligence Monitor reports 29 calls between 10 AM and 11 AM, 28 calls between 8 AM and 9 AM, and 26 calls between 7 AM and 8 AM. This is significantly higher than the typical average of about 15 calls per hour. This spike comes alongside four motor vehicle collisions reported between 7:36 AM and 10:05 AM in Norberry, Springfield North, Dakota Crossing, and Whyte Ridge, with road conditions noted as a possible factor.
