Emergency calls spiked last night, what happened hey
Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
We've got some real-time intelligence coming in that's worth paying attention to this morning. Our civic intelligence monitors picked up an unusually high volume of emergency calls overnight. Between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM on June 14, 2026, there were 25 emergency calls logged. That's a jump from the typical average of about 15 calls per hour for that timeframe, hey. We don't have details yet on the nature of these calls, but it's a significant spike that the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) would have been responding to across the city.
### Business Shifts in the City
Beyond the emergency services, it looks like there's some movement in the local business scene. We've seen 50 business closures across Winnipeg in the last month, with four of those clustered right in West Broadway. That's a neighbourhood with so much heart, right next to Osborne Village, so you feel it when spots close down.
On the brighter side, though, we also have eight new liquor license applications posted this week, according to City of Winnipeg data. Places like Pho No. 1 and The Pizza Plate are looking to open their doors, which means new spots to check out and new flavours for us all to enjoy. It's that constant push and pull, a reminder of how our city is always changing, always adapting, hey. We'll be watching for updates on those emergency calls and what comes next for these new businesses.
