Your North End Home May Be At Risk Right Now
Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
Okay, let's get right into it, hey? Our real-time intelligence monitor is showing an *active* structure fire in Burrows Central, which is in Point Douglas ward, as of 3:27 PM on June 3rd, 2026. This isn't just a small one; WFPS dispatch records, incident 2026085368, show multiple units responding: Engine 16, Engine 17, Ladder 16, Rescue 4, Rescue 6, and Gator 92, just to name a few. There was another structure fire reported in the same neighbourhood, incident 2026085369, that was resolved earlier this morning at 8:16 AM. These incidents are close together, and it's a serious situation unfolding in the North End right now.
### Development and Demolitions
Beyond the immediate emergency, the city's also seeing a lot of movement on the development front. Five demolition permits were issued between May 28th and May 29th, according to the city's development data. This includes properties like 744 Ingersoll Street in Minto and 434 Lariviere Street in Norwood East. Meanwhile, the city issued 33 new housing units across 52 projects this week, primarily in communities like Assiniboia and City Centre.
It's a lot of change, hey? We'll be keeping a close eye on the Burrows Central fire and what it means for those residents.
