Your West Alexander Neighbours Had a Fire This Morning
Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
This morning, our friends and neighbours in West Alexander experienced a structure fire. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) units E101 and E5 responded to incident 2026093385 at 9:32 AM on June 16, 2026, according to WFPS dispatch records. The fire, located in the Point Douglas ward, was resolved quickly, with crews clearing the scene by 9:38 AM. That’s good news, hey, that our emergency services are so responsive.
In other news that impacts our city's landscape, the latest civic intelligence monitor data shows that West Broadway has seen four business closures in the past month. This makes it one of the most affected neighbourhoods, alongside Central St. Boniface, Wolseley, McMillan, and North Point Douglas, which each saw three closures. On the brighter side, the city also posted eight new liquor license applications this week, including for places like Pho No. 1 and The Pizza Plate. It’s always a bit of a churn, isn’t it?
The top complaint received by 311 today was “Submission,” with three calls in 24 hours. This vague category actually topped the list of all 311 requests recently, with 2,176 total submissions, according to the latest city data. It makes you wonder what everyone is submitting, hey?
We’ll be keeping an eye on how these business trends develop and what new spots pop up for us to try.
