Buffalo, we're not getting ahead of ourselves, right?
You know, you see the folks over by the Elmwood Village, grabbing their coffee, heading to work. You'd think with the Buffalo Sabres sitting first in the Atlantic, and them heading into Montréal tonight to play the Canadiens, there'd be some kind of… hysteria. But no. It’s quiet. Not checked out, mind you, just… steady. Everyone's talking about how good the defense has been, even with some injuries we've had. Like, the other day, I was at Duff's on Sheridan, and a guy next to me, he was saying, "Peggy, I haven't seen this kind of calm confidence in… well, since my first VCR." He's not wrong. It’s a different kind of buzz this year.
The big talk, though, always comes back to the streak. Fourteen years. You say it and people just nod, like it’s a shared trauma. It’s not anxiety, not really, but it's like a whisper under everything good happening. Folks are proud, no doubt, but there's this… *patience*. Like we've been burned before, so we're just gonna keep our heads down, do the work. It’s the Buffalo way, isn't it? Even if you're feeling good, you don't go shouting it from the rooftops until the job is done. Let's Go Buff-a-lo.
