Your Sabres fell asleep, and Boston made 'em pay.
You know, some mornings you wake up, and you just feel like the whole city's got a knot in its stomach, even before you've had your first coffee. That's how it feels after the Buffalo Sabres dropped a 4-2 game to the Boston Bruins last night, right here at home. For two periods, it felt like the Sabres were just watching the game happen, especially in that second frame. Boston’s Viktor Arvidsson kicked things off at 4:54 of the second period, then Morgan Geekie put one past our guys at 16:29. And you just knew it was going to be a tough night when Pavel Zacha buried a power-play goal with less than two minutes left in the second. Boston took that momentum right into the third, with Arvidsson getting another just 16 seconds in, making it 4-0 before you could even blink.
Now, our boys didn't just roll over, bless 'em. Bowen Byram got one back at 13:54 of the third, a nice effort with assists from Brandon Malenstyn and Owen Power. And then Peyton Krebs, he notched another goal at 15:08, with Rasmus Dahlin and Alex Tuch helping out. That made it 4-2 and gave us a little flicker of hope, but it was just too little, too late. The shots were 36-26 in favor of Boston, and honestly, the score reflects how that game went. It felt like we were back in line at Duff’s, waiting for our turn, while Boston was already halfway through their wings.
So, what does this mean for the Buffalo Sabres? We’re still sitting pretty at the top of the Atlantic Division with 109 points, a 50-23-9 record. And a 6-3-1 run in our last ten is still solid, but this loss breaks an overtime streak and just feels like a punch in the gut. The good news is, we've still got a cushion. But nights like these, against a team like the Boston Bruins, remind you that you can't take your foot off the gas. You gotta bring that compete level every single shift. Next up, we gotta shake this off and get ready, because the schedule doesn't get easier. Let's Go Buff-a-lo.
