You gotta see what happened to the Buffalo Sabres last night
Another one slipped through our fingers last night, didn't it? The Buffalo Sabres went toe-to-toe with the Boston Bruins at home, and for a while, it felt like we had it in the bag. Rasmus Dahlin got us on the board early in the first period on the power play, thanks to assists from Kevin Thompson and Jordan Zucker. That’s the kind of start you want to see, especially against a team like Boston. We held that lead through the first, but then Hampus Lindholm tied it up for the Bruins in the second. That’s the thing about these division games, you can never relax. It went to overtime, and you know how that goes, a coin flip really. David Pastrnak got the winner for Boston nine minutes into the extra frame. Final score, Boston Bruins 2, Buffalo Sabres 1. It stings, especially at home, right there on Main Street.
It was a tight game all the way through, shots were 29 for us and 25 for them. Close, but not quite enough. Losing in overtime gives us that single point, which is something, I guess. The Buffalo Sabres are still sitting pretty at the top of the Atlantic Division with 109 points, a 50-23-9 record. Our last ten games we’re 6-3-1, so it’s not like we're falling apart. But these points against division rivals, they just mean a little more, you know? It’s a good reminder that every shift, every puck battle, it matters, especially when the stakes get higher.
So, what does it mean for us here in Buffalo? We’re still first in the division, which is where we want to be. But losing to Boston, even in overtime, it reminds you that the road to the playoffs, and through them, is gonna be tough. You look around, and you see the folks at Duff's this morning, probably still grumbling into their coffee about that overtime goal. It’s part of being a Sabres fan, I suppose — the hope, the near misses. But we keep going. The guys just gotta keep that pressure on and convert those chances. We’ve got a good group, and this kind of loss, it can fuel you if you let it. Let's Go Buff-a-lo.
