Did you really think I'd be sleeping after that one?
Last night, the Buffalo Sabres went into Boston and put a real clinic on the Bruins, taking them down 4-1. I know some of you probably went to bed early thinking it'd be another one of *those* nights, but this time, the boys held strong. Alexander Tuch got us going early in the first period, and then Mattias Samuelsson — yeah, that Mattias Samuelsson — netted one to give us a good cushion. It was nice to see them keep pushing, especially on the road against a team like Boston, who usually makes us work for every inch of ice.
Now, I'm not gonna lie, when David Pastrnak got one back for the Boston Bruins in the second, my stomach dropped a little. You just know how these things go, right? But the Buffalo Sabres didn't fold. Young Zach Benson, with an assist from J. Doan, buried one in the third period to restore the two-goal lead, and then J. Norris put it away. Twenty-six shots apiece, too, so it wasn't like the Bruins didn't try. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stood tall. It's the kind of gritty road win we needed to see, showing they can really grind it out when it matters.
This win is a big one for the Buffalo Sabres, especially as we're sitting pretty at 1st in the Atlantic with 109 points. Six wins in the last ten, and we're on a bit of a roll. It means we keep that momentum going, and it really sets the tone for what we're hoping to do in the playoffs. The city of Buffalo, from the West Side to the Southtowns, is feeling a buzz this morning you can practically taste, better than a stale donut from Tim Hortons, even. It’s been a long time coming, and wins like this make the wait worthwhile. Let's Go Buff-a-lo!
