You kiddin’ me with this kinda loss?
The Boston Bruins dropped one last night to the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-2. We were at home, too, right in the Gahden, and they just didn't show up for sixty minutes. You look at the shots, 35-20, and that tells a story right there. We got one early from Erik Lindholm, and you're thinkin' okay, we're settin' the tone. But then Matthew Knies gets a shorthanded one in the second that just deflates the place. Then Auston Matthews wasn't even on the sheet and they still burned us. Morgan Geekie and Hampus Jokiharju got us on the board first, but Charlie McAvoy's power play goal in the third was too little, too late.
The second period killed us, kid. Max Domi on the power play, then William Nylander makin' it 3-1 early in the third, and that's the game. We clawed one back from Charlie McAvoy on the power play, but Knies sealed it with an empty netter that wasn't really an empty netter 'cause they were on the power play anyway. It's just sloppy hockey, no two ways about it. This ain't the Lunch Pail A.C. kinda effort we expect here in Boston.
This loss stings, no doubt. We're still sittin' decent in the Atlantic, but you can't be givin' away points like this against teams you're gonna see in the playoffs. We're 4th in the Atlantic, Wildcard #1, with 86 points. Our last ten, 5-2-3, ain't terrible, but this kinda performance leaves a bad taste, like a lukewarm clam chowder from some tourist trap down by the Waterfront. Gotta tighten up, and quick.
From the Gahden — Buh-ins hockey. This is Hanny.
